Fresh Streetwear for School

Public School

Fresh gear from a pair of streetwear scholars

New York Public School graduates have given the world much to be thankful for; Queens' Cardozo High School class of '73 alone blessed us with the tremendous girth of Reginald VelJohnson and Ron Jeremy. Something else to be grateful for: the new online shop from Public School.

Created by two former NY public schoolers/Diddy employees, and formerly available only in select stores, PS' new web shop brings the masses their signature stylized street wear and an attitude that's “left of the rack,” which may work for fashion but is a poor technique for motor-boating. The freshly dropped Fall/Winter line is highlighted by outerwear including the light-weight uncoated lamb leather Kingston jacket with a matte finish, a sleeveless zip-front flat-black hoodie, and the one-button closure Freyburg biker jacket in washed leather inspired by vintage “non-bike rider biker jackets”, which look a lot smoother than the non-parachuting parachute you picked up. PS's streamlined tailoring and layering also mean sweaters; a black cardigan with ribbed shawl-collar and double-row button closure, and a grey French Terry Horse Vest with black trimmed collar and leather pocket lining; as well as a few martial themed shirts including one in blue with a Nehru collar, epaulets and decorative collar tabs, a grey short-sleeved poplin with two narrow vertical strips in vivid red plaid suggestive of suspenders, and the Stayman plaid flannel military shirt, meaning you don't have to make the difficult choice at your Halloween party between soldier and lumberjack.
The guys from PS also recently dropped another line called Black Apple in select Urban Outfitters, Metro Park and Up Against the Wall stores, featuring a capsule collection of leather jackets in three different styles at more modest prices; missing out on it would reflect the same faulty intelligence shown by yet another Cardozo High School class of '73 alum, George Tenet.
